Synergy—an
exhibition of artworks by Ron
Meisner and textiles from Cora
Ginsburg LLC—explores
the dynamics of color, pattern,
iconography, and embellishment
that develop in this unique
juxtaposition.
In his Filter series,
Meisner’s canvases are
recycled coffee filters, each
fabric-like with mottled surfaces.
His compositions—organic,
figurative and abstract in
nature—are mixed-media
combinations of materials and
methods. Watercolor, gouache
and pencil mingle with vivid
tie-dye, collage and esoteric
appliqués. Meisner applies
his artistic “filter” to
the sensual world, conjuring
statements of humorous imagery,
mysterious narrative, delicate
beauty, and complex geometry.
An
aesthetic dialogue emerges
when Meisner’s Filters are
put in context with a selection
of antique, ethnographic and
modernist textiles from the
Cora Ginsburg collection. An
emphasis on color harmonies,
shapes and textures connects
diverse fabrics—including
bold eighteenth-century patterns,
mid-twentieth-century printed
linens, swirling Art Nouveau
designs, and dazzling Asian
embroideries—to Meisner’s
art, highlighting the synergistic
interplay of three centuries
of textile design and the work
of a contemporary artist.
